Ingredients

Bengal gram (whole) 1 cup (soaked overnight)
Large onions 2 (finely cut)
Green chillies 3
Tomato 1 (finely cut)
Tumeric powder ½ tsp
Kashmiri chilly powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 2 tsp
Garam masala powder 1 tsp
Mustard seeds ½ tsp
Curry leaves
Salt to taste

           

For grinding
Shallots 4
Garlic 4 cloves
Scraped coconut 1 cup
Dry red chillies 3
Black pepper ½ tsp
Method of Preperation

In a pan pour 1 tsp oil and fry the items for grinding till it turns golden brown. Grind it to paste in a mixer bowl. Pressure cook the black chana with salt and green chillis. In aheavy bottomed pan pour 2 tbsp of oil and splutter the mustard seeds, dry red chillies, curry leaves and add the onions. Saute the onions till they turn transparent. Add the chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, tomato and stir. Add the cooked chana and the coconut paste adding water to get a gravy. Let it simmer and when the gravy thickens remove from flame.
